Shifters Installed

I installed the stem shifters last night and went for a ride this afternoon. I'm happy to report that despite my poor mechanical skills, everything worked as it should.

I'm happy to be riding on my Brooks saddle again. It is the most comfortable saddle I've ever used.

I need to find a use for the old shifter mount. I've seen photos of people using the bosses to mount a brass bells and similar items.

  1. Nicely done, as usual.

That bike is looking better every day.

  2. It would also make a good place to mount a water bottle holder...

  3. Isn't it funny how we buy "new" bikes, then end up building them to be the same thing as the old bike we sold off? I'm loving the Takara, and can't help but notice how it's beginning to mirror your old LHT.

Now, get a two-legged kickstand for it, and you'll have it done!

  4. I dig it ... nice job, yet again!

  5. Christopher-Thanks. I'm pleased with the way it's turning out.

Steve-That's a good idea. The mount may be a bit too high on the downtube to fit a bottle.

Jon-I was really happy with the LHT. I'd like to get as close to that setup as possible. I also really miss that kickstand.

    Apertome-Thanks. It's a work in progress.

  6. these look great. nice job. i have an old nishiki mixte i use for errands around town. the stem mounted shifters are real long (and the bike is a bit small for me) such that my knee will sometimes knock the shifter and change gears on me, usually as i'm hammering up a hill or something...nathan

  7. fridaycyclotouriste-Luckily I didn't have any issues with the shifters while climbing. I used to have problems with my bar end shifters.

Speaking of mixtes, you should check out Paul's blog if you haven't already The Mixte Gallery. I'm a mixte fan. If I found one my size I'd ride it.

  8. That project looks like a lot of fun. I'll bet it's even more fun to ride.

That is a great looking bike, and I like the changes you are making. Thanks for documenting your progress. It's giving me ideas about my Kuwahara.
