Changes

I've decided to do something a little different with my blog. Somebody recently made the observation that I don't post as much as I used to. That's true. It seems that I get to ride my bike an average of once a week, sometimes less than that. That doesn't give me a whole lot to write about. There are many interesting things that I read about or come across at work on a daily basis that have nothing to do with cycling. Usually I just try to remember what interested me, and what might interest the few hardy souls that follow this blog, and throw it all out at once in the occasional mish-mash that I call a Random Stuff post. I'm going to try to fill in the space between my ride posts with some of this stuff. So, Rat Trap Press will remain a bike blog but I'm going to pepper it with whatever else grabs my attention. There are some really unique and intelligent people out there who read my blog, it has been interesting reading your comments on everything from classic station wagons to tanker desks to obscure bike parts. I hope this change doesn't run anybody off.

  1. People who ride and like bicycles are usually well rounded in their interest. They also seem to have similar interest. I am very much interested in bikes and bike things but that is not all I'm interested in. I imagine you have many other interesting subjects and I look forward to reading them.

  2. Yes, go for it! To be a cyclist, you have to notice some things that most people don't. Sometimes they can be quite interesting.

  3. You may have noticed a few non-bicycling posts over at Two Wheels...

Bring on the non-bikey stuff, man! Any conversation is bound to touch on more than one subject, before it's through.

  4. Sounds like a good plan! No need to restrict yourself to "on-topic" posts. I'll continue to follow -- your posts are always interesting, no matter what the topic.

  5. Don't be afraid to go off-piste with your blogging. My favourite two bike-centric writers are Grant Peterson and the chap from BikeSnobNYC. Grant has a great way of making everything from fly fishing to walnuts to baseball seem relevant to cycling in some way, while Mr BSNYC is just so damned funny that nobody minds that the vast majority of his posts are none bike related.
