Sunday Afternoon Ride 05-08-11

Yet another ride with no destination in mind:

It's starting to get hot around here now. It was in the low 90's and windy.

I headed east from home and made my way to the Fairmont neighborhood. I stopped at Old Home Supply on College Street. I pulled out my U-lock and realized that I didn't have the key. I left my bike unlocked but I stepped outside every couple of minutes to make sure it was still there.

There is lots of interesting stuff to be found here.

After leaving the store I headed out toward east Magnolia to get a look at the new bike lanes.

New bike lanes were also added on Main Street.

After reading about the improvements to Hyde Park in FortWorthology, I stopped off to take a look for myself.

I rode straight through downtown and stopped to take this photo as I was headed down Radio Shack hill (Radio Shack world HQ is in the building on the left).

On my way back home I broke a couple of spokes on my rear wheel. The wheel was way out of true to the point that one of the brake pads was rubbing against the tire's sidewall. I called my wife to rescue me. I removed the basket so the bike would fit in the back seat of my car.

It's been a very long time since I've had to call somebody to give me a ride home. That's my wife in the background pulling in to the parking lot to pick me up.

  1. Broken spokes? Bummer! At least you got a bit of a ride in before it happened!

  2. Other than the spokes it sounds like a good day. I was trying to think of something witty to say about your lock and the keys pictured but I gave up. That shop looks like a neat place.

  3. Boy, if I walked into that store I'd never leave.

  4. Yea, that store is cool, but that head with the lines on it was kind of freaky!

Bummer about the spokes. But that's a part of the bike life.

  5. Great post, Myles!

That store so reminds me of St. Louis!
Did I mention the beard looks great?

    Peace :)
