Mellow Johnny's

I had to run down to Austin today to pick up my new state issued vehicle, but I managed to sneak in a quick side trip to Lance Armstrong's bike shop Mellow Johnny's.

There was a wide variety of gear on hand such as Honjo fenders, Surly racks, and pretty close to every model of Brooks saddles and their (Brooks) panniers and leather grips. They also had some nice retro style jerseys from Solo and expensive stuff from Rapha.

The employees were all genuinely helpful as a couple of them made several trips to the stockroom to find the right size and color t shirts that I was buying as gifts for my oldest son. I ended up walking out with a few t shirts, a can of Proofide, and a wrench for my Brooks Saddle.

If you happen to be in Austin I highly recommend a trip to Lance's new shop.

Piece By Piece

The big brown truck pulled up to my house this afternoon delivering a few eagerly awaited parts for my Long Haul Trucker. The Brooks Flyer came from Wallingford Bicycle Parts. It's a beautiful saddle. I knew it was going to be heavy but I wasn't prepared for just how heavy it actually is. My recently surpressed roadie weight weenie attitude was trying to rear it's ugly head. Comfort is my new priority. The Nitto M-12 rack came from Milwaukee Bicycle Company. This is the version that has the dual eyelets on the stays for mounting lights. My order from Velo Orange should arrive tomorrow. All I need now is something to mount this stuff on.
