It's done. I swapped my old Velo-Orange Tourist Bar with a a set of Albatross bars that I salvaged from another bike. I installed the bars on a Nito Periscopa stem for a little extra height. I then topped everything off with a pair of Dia-Compe inverse levers and some old cloth bar tape that I bought a couple of years ago but never got around to using. The result is a bar with unencumbered hand space from the bar ends clear to the stem. It's very comfortable although I will be adding some cork bar tape before doing any long distance touring.
The tape doesn't really match anything on the bike, and to be I honest, I don't really care.

This isn't bike related but I thought it was interesting.
