Well, I'm going to sell my Long Haul Trucker. I don't want to, but we've had to deal with some unexpected expenses like plumbing problems, medical expenses, and my son's college tuition. If that wasn't enough our washing machine died and the LCD panel on my TV needs to be replaced (anywhere from $1200-$2200). It's the perfect storm. For the time being me and my son will share his old Trek. I'm trying to be positive about this. Before too long I'll be able to hunt down an old steel framed bike and set it up just the way I like. If you know anybody that's interested in a used 56cm LHT let me know. I'm not sure how much I'm going to ask for it just yet. I'm also selling my Ostrich bag for $80 including the decaleur.

Wow, that's too bad. I really hope for you that in the end you're not going to have to part with your faithful steed. That would be a shame.
ReplyDeleteOoh, bummer! If you'd like to ride a nice Fuji Royale mixte around, let me know. I've got one that I was planning on fixing up and flipping. Aside from cosmetic stuff, I think it really just needs new tubes, tires and maybe handlebar tape. I believe it's a 19.5 inch (50 cm) frame.
ReplyDeleteActually, I've got a couple other bikes as well- a 1970 Sears ladies frame, I think 21 inches, and a 1960 Hawthorne cruiser 3-speed made by Hercules in Birmingham. The last one is more of a project and need some work, but it's probably the coolest of the three.
ReplyDeleteOw Ow Ow... If I was in your area I'd offer to buy it off you and sell it back when you had the money.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise that is one of the advantages of being car free- the bike won't be sold because it's out main form of transport.
Man. That really sucks! I am sorry to hear that you have to part with the Trucker. I think if I had to choose between the Trucker and a TV, the bike would win out ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Ostrich bag is tempting. Not quite what I'm after, though.
Good luck selling things. At least you'll still have a bike to ride.
Too bad,If it were a 60c I would buy it.I had a cross-check that was a little small for me so I sold it a few years back.I have been looking for a nice commuter.Hey,you should ask Jon what he has,I am sure he could fix you up with something nice in vintage steel.
ReplyDeleteA sad day.
ReplyDelete:(
twister-It's already gone. That was tough.
ReplyDeleteDoohickie-Thanks. I appreciate the offer. I was wondering if you still had that Fuji. That's a nice little bike. I may sell a couple of more items which means I can buy a cheap replacement sometime next month.
workbike-The LHT was more of a luxury than a necessity. I didn't need it to get to work and I never did any real touring. I can get by with something inexpensive.
Apertome-Unfortunately it's not one or the other. We had to watch the Lost finale and now the NHL finals on a old 19" tv. I was spoiled by the big screen. What makes things worse is that I bought the tv at Circuit City!
frankenbiker-I'm sure I'll be checking with Jon. I like what he's done with those old mountain bikes recently.
***Thanks to everybody for your kind words and support. You're all good people.***
Yes, I still have the Fuji. I would love to know it's going to someone who appreciates it.
ReplyDeleteugh. so sorry to hear this.
ReplyDeletehey, if you need a washing machine, i've got an old neon lime green one we'd be happy to give ya. it's from my college days, so it looks pretty crazy, but it'll do the trick.
B.F.O.C.- A lime green machine would be awesome! Unfortunately we had half of our garage converted into an apartment for a family member and only have room for stackable units. What a pain. Thanks for the offer.
ReplyDeleteI just got passed to your blog because we had a similar set up on our LHTs. Alas I had to scroll down to this post. Sorry to see you sold it. You gotta do what you gotta do. If you get sad you can check my blog for photos of mine. (until the economy makes me sell it too)
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, I like the Oak Cliff links, I spent a few nights there many years ago.
Cycle Jerk-My LHT was a great, versatile bike. I hope to buy another one some day.
ReplyDeleteI'll be adding a link to your blog.
