Inverse Brake Levers

It's done. I swapped my old Velo-Orange Tourist Bar with a a set of Albatross bars that I salvaged from another bike. I installed the bars on a Nito Periscopa stem for a little extra height. I then topped everything off with a pair of Dia-Compe inverse levers and some old cloth bar tape that I bought a couple of years ago but never got around to using. The result is a bar with unencumbered hand space from the bar ends clear to the stem. It's very comfortable although I will be adding some cork bar tape before doing any long distance touring.

The tape doesn't really match anything on the bike, and to be I honest, I don't really care.

This isn't bike related but I thought it was interesting.

  3. How do those inverse levers compare to non-inverse levers for stopping, and adjusting?

  4. I rode a new bike with brakes like that the other day at my local bike shop and I am hooked!

  5. That's one excellent setup - like the fact that you can grab the bar anywhere without brakes or gears getting in the way.

  7. Thanks for the comments guys. If you're riding a bike with some form of swept back bars you should give them a try. They're affordable.

John Romeo Alpha-They just like regular levers but there isn't much in the way of adjustment. I could add cable adjusters at the ends of the housing at the cable stops.

  8. Beautiful bike and holy crap. I would throw myself into the piano and cruise for free the rest of my life...if I survived.

  9. I have Origin8 Space Bars and inverse levers... It may be time to give the commuter a makeover. I had the Space Bars on there previously but didn't like the arrangement of all the stuff on the bars. Inverse levers may be just the ticket.

  11. Hmm...This must be the season. Now I know I'm not the only one experimenting with handlebars and brake levers:
