Riding in the Soup

My blog has sat neglected as I've dealt with the effects of a dreaded summer cold. A cold combined with 100+ degree weather tends to make riding, and blogging for that matter, a low priority. I felt much better this morning and decided that it was time to ride. As usual the destination didn't matter.

I headed out into the thick soupy air. This is South Drive north of I-20. The lanes here are nice and wide.

My new U-lock holder performed just fine. I forgot to sew straps on the lower backside of the holder. I expected the lock to act like a big door knocker every time I rode over a bump. Surprisingly it hardly moved. The next one I make will be a little more fitted.

Hunting for shade. I think it's time to invest in a wide brimmed hat.

I wanted to mention a couple things that are coming up in the near future.

Prints and Sprints: Personally, I think screen printing and cycling go together like peanut butter and jelly. I'm surprised to see that I'm not the only one who feels that way. Somebody came up with the fantastic idea of having a screen printed poster show along with bicycle roller racing by Lonestar Goldsprints. This is a fundraiser for the Livestrong Challenge. They'll be giving away prizes by Timbuk2 and Chrome. This will be taking place starting at 8: 00 PM at Le Meme Gallery and Rubber Gloves, 411 E. Sycamore Street Denton, Texas.

Cowtown Indie Bazaar: Etsy Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Handmade Arts Association are teaming up and bringing us the Cowtown Indie Bazaar September 4th, 9AM-6PM, at the Will Rogers Memorial Center 3401 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth. This sounds like a good destination for a group ride.

Speaking of screen printed posters, this is kind of interesting. I first saw it on Inside the Rock Poster Frame. Reminds me of the invisible man models that they used to sell when I was a kid. It's a six color screen printed poster by Ames Bros.

Lonestar Goldsprints at Trinity Bicycles

Trinity Bicycles hosted Lonestar Goldsprints yesterday evening as part of their not quite open yet-grand opening. Their building hasn't been completed but it's close. They managed to pack in an enthusiastic crowd to watch the evenings activities.

Dylan Holt, the man responsible for the evenings entertainment. He and Christina Sebastian (seated) are two of the founders of Bike Friendly Arlington.

I had the opportunity to meet Ron, aka Lonelobo in our BABBLE group. That's him on the right. The person on the left is my oldest kid, Jacob. It was nice to spend a little time with him, as he is heading off to the Air Force next month.
