Sunday Ride Through Downtown Fort Worth

I took some time ride around and explore downtown yesterday. Here's a few random photos.

I don't know if this is a business or somebody's home. I tried taking a picture of the classic Alpha Romeo's displayed inside. I ended up with this shot instead. My daughter thought the picture was kind of neat so I kept it.

This building suffered a direct hit from a tornado back in 2000. We were living in Abilene at the time. It was boarded up for a couple of years before it was renovated and turned into apartments.

5:10 AM

I took my front wheel to the shop yesterday after work and had the bearings replaced in my hubs. Good as new. I dragged myself out of bed, got dressed, and was out the door by 5:10 AM. The lack of traffic and heat was nice.

Early Morning Ride a No Go

I got up this morning, gathered up my bike stuff and left the house at 5:30 AM. I had picked up a cheap headlight and taillight a couple of days earlier thinking that I'd beat the heat by doing my workout before I head off to work at 7:30 AM. I left the house and everything was going great until I heard squeaking that grew louder and louder as I rode. I hopped off and realized that it was the front hub. Two days earlier I went for an afternoon ride but forgot about the remnants of Tropical Storm Eduardo heading this way. The wind picked up in a big way, a headwind of coarse, and I was pounded by some really heavy rain. I washed my bike the next day and apparently caused the squeaking that put a quick end to my early morning ride. My wife tried going back to sleep after I left so she wasn't real happy to see me only 15 minutes later. I'll try it again tomorrow.

103 Degrees

It's been pretty darn hot and miserable the last few days with no real relief in sight. The weather forecast says that its going to be 104 degrees tomorrow. I've avoided screen printing the last few days. The heat from the dryers (to heat set the ink) makes my garage unbearable. All this means that I've spent more time online than usual. I thought it might be nice to point out some interesting blogs and websites I've come across over the last few days. The theme for this post is slow.

Nice little blog by "The Bronze Bombshell" (cool name). All about riding in style. I'm sure it's a little warm in Georgia right now.

Race 2 Replace Posters

My wife, the biggest cycling fan I know, bought these posters on Ebay. We've got four out of the five poster series. They were designed by Tavis Coburn. His site has been under construction for quite some time but he's got some samples of his work online. We're missing the George Hincappie poster but we're searching for it.

2nd Design

This is the second design from Justin at Triplemilled. Its a three color print on a light navy Alternative Apparel t shirt. I printed this one and only one after work last night. The set up, registering of the screens, and mixing the inks took forever. I'll be printing the women's version soon.

Bad Weather

I hate springtime here in Texas. We've been pounded by severe storms just about every week. It rains just about every time I try to get out to ride my mountain bike.



I bought my 11 year old son his first real mountain bike. Its an Iron Horse Maverick 5.5 that I picked up for sale at the local Performance bike shop for under $400. I really didn't want to spend too much because he will outgrow this bike within the year. Since the mountain bike trails were wet I took my son riding on the paved Trinity Trails on the south side of Fort Worth. The river was high and there was lots of damage from the recent downpours. I'm hoping things dry out soon.
