A. Homer Hilsen

As the result of an epic act of generosity, I am now the owner of a Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen. The previous owner is a fantastic guy who I believe would be embarrassed if I mentioned him by name, so I won't, but I again want to relay my appreciation.

Unfortunately this beautiful frame is too big for me. Its a 65cm with a 35 inch standover height. I normally ride a 56-58cm. I tried to persuade myself that I could deal with a frame this size but eventually reality took hold after many minutes spent standing on my toes to straddle the top tube. Rivendell advocates going with a larger size frame than most companies but this frame is outside of their guidlines. I stripped the parts from the frame and cleaned it up. My plan is to sell it and replace it with another Rivendell frameset in my size. I kind of like the Sam Hillborne despite the sloping top tube. I've always liked Rivendell frames but never thought that I would actually own one.

  2. I'm very happy to see that you are benefiting from good fortune. I hope that you'll be able to make the appropriate trades to a Rivendell, of your choice, in your size.

    No, it's BEAUTIFUL!

If you have trouble trading into a HH the right size, you can hang it from the wall and salivate.

  4. That is a beautiful bike! I thought the 65cm frame was huge until I read Rivendell's bike sizing page.

Can't wait to see your Sam Hillborne!

  7. I love Rivendell bicycles ... and that's a real stunner. Can't imagine I'll ever own one, either, though.

  8. Did you ever sell this? My Rambouillet lost a fight with an XTerra after my son put one behind the other and at 6'3", I think I could handle the size.

  9. Brother Beaker-Sorry to hear about your Rambouillet. I hope you find a suitable replacement. The Hilsen frame has been sold.
