Work

No, I don't have a skin disease. This is the result of some pretty intense, realistic training at work over the last couple of days.

Those marks were made by this stuff-Simunition training ammo. Obviously it's non-lethal but that little marking ball is traveling about 450 feet per second. You know it when you're hit.

I don't mention work very often, the agency I work for wouldn't like me discussing too much on my blog, so I'll be somewhat vague. This was the first time in my 21 plus years with this agency that we've trained with simunition and it was a real eye opener. I got shot up while role playing as a bad guy. I was given the task of popping out from a hallway behind a tactical team to insure that the rear guard was paying attention-he was. We fired at the same time. I got him twice in the throat as he and several of his guys peppered my legs, groin, and abdomen. Luckily my abdomen and groin were protected. I was wearing jeans and felt the sharp stinging from multiple rounds impacting on my thighs. Surprisingly I could only find two cuts and bruises. If you want to see your breathing and heart rate shoot through the roof, get involved in a running shootout.

This is what we were doing.

  1. For lack of a better word, it looks like fun and it's something I wouldn't mind doing myself.

  2. Pain isn't fun. For most of us. I'll glad you are working and I'm not.

  4. Hmm, I think being one of the instructors seems the best bet since both the good and the bad guys got all shot up.

  6. Too bad the Simunition(tm) caused RealPain(tm). I guess that's also part of the training, though, a little negative feedback to let the hindbrain know about the error (getting hit).

  9. Badass. It does look like fun, minus the pain. I feel silly complaining about my professors now, haha!
